Summer is slowly coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean Filipinos stop celebrating our food and culture. The community in New York City is rich and thriving as there’s always something out there to do, to invest, to eat! These are some of the events to add to your calendars and check out…
Ube Festival
265 Canal Street - New York, NY // Aug 12-13 @ 11am - 7pm
Inspired by all things ube, Canal Street Market is hosting New York City’s first ever Ube Festival! With local NYC vendors and well-known food spots and micro bakeries like Kabisera cafe in the Lower East Side and Purple Box Bakery, this is an all ube event featuring all different forms and recreations of ube - a famous and nation-wide favorite purple yam used in every Filipino dessert.
If you also happen to be Long Beach, there will also be a weekend of Ube festivities and vendors on Aug 20-21!
Sari-salo market
MOTO Spritis, 93 Forrest St - Brooklyn, NY // Aug 20 @ 5-10pm
Sari-Salo is the second installment organized by Chef Erika of Patikim (@patikim.nyc on Instagram), featuring Filipino barbeque, DJ Bianca, and food and merch vendors! According to their Instagram post, they also organizing a fundraising raffle, in which the funds will be donated to a local non-profit organization (not specified). Vendors featured include Filipinta, a small cosmetics business that markets Filipino-inspired products, and micro bakery who was also a Creator Highlights, ButterBoy Baking Co. by Carla.
Astoria, Queen’s Market
31st Ave, 33rd - 35th St - Astoria, New York // Aug 13 @ 1-8pm
PandeMaeul, a Queen’s based micro bakery selling Filipino cakes, breads, and pastries, is hosting an Astoria Street Fair with over twenty-five vendors and a free raffle towards the end. With vendors including The Boiis Co for food, De La Luna for jewelry, Natural Syrups for wellness products, this market is for eating, relaxing, and shopping!
